Description
Clouds in the cave

Stèle was created in collaboration with the graphic design studio Syndicat (François Havegeer and Sacha Léopold). First and foremost, it's a digital collage created by Syndicat from photographs of exhibition views taken by Aurélien Mole.
The subject of each collage is a borderline case of photographic restitution, whether in terms of colors, light sources or textures.

Once the collages had been produced, Syndicat sent them to 5 different printers based in France, Belgium, Lithuania and China to be printed as posters.
On receipt of the reams of posters, and despite identical files, none of the posters had the same density or colorimetry.

Aurélien Mole then re-photographed each poster.

Each series was then digitally stacked, and Aurélien Mole, François Havegeer and Sacha Léopold cut out motifs from this digital thickness, which only appear because the posters don't exactly have the same rendering characteristics.

Finally, each image has been enclosed in massive frames that can be hung on the wall or placed on the floor. In the latter case, brass weights compensate for the image's weight to prevent it from tipping forward.
