This is a painting made by incising the wood and putting paint into this incision. It is not a surface painting but rather a thick one.
Technically speaking this evokes certain techniques used in jewelry such as cloisonné enamels where the color is poured into a shape. The term therefore refers to a painting which would not be ashamed of being ornamental, and which could be thought of as a piece of jewelry that could be worn in an exhibition if it were a person. A piece that therefore functions as a showcase.
The motif of this painting is also used for another piece entitled "Brimborion" which is a monochrome on folded canvas.
It is from this first fold made in a flexible material that the Colifichet motif transcribed in a hard material comes.
