Bookleg is a way of publishing images by hacking an existing book with photographs printed on stickers.
For this first three-copy publication, Aurélien Mole used images from the Gold Grows on Trees series to cover certain pages of the book Voyage Pittoresque à travers Luxembourg, a compilation of engravings by Nicolas Liez.
The challenge here is to understand how a country represents itself. Defining oneself is the first step towards creating national unity. With this in mind, the monuments represented by Nicolas Liez are like milestones that mark out the territory of the Grand Duchy.
Covering these engravings with photographs taken in Luxembourg, using artificial lighting that makes them look strangely fake, aims to make the nationalization of a landscape something of a decorative gesture.
