Using expired Polaroid film, Aurélien Mole created a series of photographs featuring American cars, most of which date from the 1970s. Because the chemicals required to develop these images had partially evaporated, only a small portion of each Polaroid’s light-sensitive surface actually developed. Arranged according to the extent of the development process, this series of 63 images documents a journey across the United States—from Boston to San Francisco—undertaken by Aurélien Mole in 2005. The work also speaks to two bygone golden ages: that of the automobile and that of analogic instant photography.
Through interventions by the press operators during the printing of the cover, each copy is rendered unique and resonate to the various chemical alterations found in the Polaroids reproduced within the book.
Opening and booklaunch at Program/me, 6 bis rue des Récollets 75010 Paris on Friday November 6th from 6pm to 9pm.
