CNEAI île des impressionnistes f - 78400 Chatou
Date,
06.12.2014, 19.04.2015

Christophe Lemaitre's fourth exhibition at the Cneai is like the temporary extension of the artist's personal collection, started last year: a set of objects that we use without touching them. A piggy bank, an ashtray, a table mirror, a ring sizer, a flower picker, a clock, sometimes found, sometimes manufactured: objects whose contextualization in the symbolic space of an exhibition reveals that they shared without already doubts, in certain respects, the conventional mode of existence of works of art during their domestic life. Expressed differently, objects whose functional program is not interrupted by their movement within an exhibition space.

At the Cneai, taking other works as supports (François Lancien-Guilberteau, Aurélien Mole) and backgrounds (the painted door by Corentin Canesson and François Lancien-Guilberteau, the curtain by Lasse Schmidt Hansen), these objects are accompanied by several loans which extend and complete the collection for the occasion, temporarily: a coat rack by Marc-Camille Chaimowicz, a sculpture (doorstop) by Jean-Charles de Quillacq, electrical outlets by Jean-Pascal Flavien (which replace here all the shots from the room), Odilon Boutin's pencil holder. Christophe Lemaitre's objects are scattered over the selection of a few images by François Lancien-Guilberteau (Views of the performance "Portrait of the exhibition curator as a geisha") tilted at ninety degrees on the walls by angle brackets in brass designed for the occasion by Aurélien Mole.
